Major congestion relief project in Kuils River nearing completion

10 September 2024

Yesterday, 9 September 2024, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, went out to Amandel Road in Kuils River to see the great progress the project team has made with this major congestion relief project. The existing dual carriageway on Amandel Road in Kuils River has been extended by upgrading the single carriageway between the Bottelary River bridge and Church Street. This included the construction of a secondary dualled road-over-river bridge that now runs parallel to the existing bridge across the Bottelary River. These upgrades will provide much needed congestion relief in the Kuils River region. The upgrades to Amandel and Bottelary Road are expected to be completed by November this year, if all goes according to plan. Read more below:

‘The Amandel Road upgrades which includes new non-motorised transport infrastructure is designed to improve mobility in this rapidly developing residential area. This upgrade project forms part of our Congestion Management Strategy, aimed at enhancing traffic flow towards the R300. Addressing congestion is crucial for the growing communities of Kuils River and Brackenfell. Major projects like these are essential for managing the increased traffic in the area and we appreciate the continued support and patience of residents as we work on these improvements to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

A separate cycling lane will be incorporated from the roundabout at Langverwacht Road through to Soneike Mall.
